Our Goal
Central Mississippi Prevention Services, Inc. (CMPS) was incorporated in the State of Mississippi as a non-profit agency in 1999. After becoming tax exempt under 501c(3) of the Internal Revenue code, CMPS received funding in 2000 from the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Services Division. Our agency is currently headed by a seven member Board of Directors that conduct monthly meetings. The Board of Directors has general oversight over all agency business. CMPS is managed by executive director Joseph Johnson who is also the founder of the agency. Mr. Johnson is also responsible for all the daily programmatic and fiscal activities. The other full time staff member, Emma Roberts, is the assistant director and office manager, whom is responsible for all front office duties including maintaining all personnel, programmatic and fiscal records. Additionally there are 2 part-time employees who are responsible for case management duties including home visits, counseling for students, family counseling, advocacy, linkage and referral for all students in the case management program. Finally, up to 12 part-time contract workers including counselors and teachers provide life-skills training tutoring and homework assistance to high risk students. The work of preventing children and youth from engaging in negative and delinquent behavior is primarily accomplished through the provision of After School Enrichment Programs and Summer Leadership Camp. Because the negative effects of school failure are well documented, CMPS strives to concentrate extensive attention and resources on combating this problem.
